In 2006, RFD #1 presented and/or participated in 203 fire safety programs and
activities (up 176% from the previous year). Firefighters & Fire Corps
members volunteered 8793 hours (up 136%) & participated in 376 hours of fire
safety training (up 148%). Since 2003, the department has received six fire
safety related grants from the Department of Homeland Security and two
grants from the Arkansas Fire Prevention Commission. These grants, coupled
with the financial support of sponsors and the hard work of the department's
firefighters and Fire Corps members, have enabled the department to
experience a 34% decrease in property losses due to fire since that time.
